Off Season Clinics and Why

This previous weekend as a staff we traveled to Costa Mesa for a football clinic.  Clinic are a valuable tool for football coaches just as any professional conference is for any professional in a given field.  This weekend the biggest thing was getting little pieces of information to help us become better coaches and improve the product on the field.  As a staff we took 7 coaches to the clinic.  We say over 20 speakers and I know for myself I took almost 40 pages of notes.  As a staff some of the highlights were:

West Texas A&M Coach Billy Best and his OL drills/schemes for the run game and pass game with big splits

Houston Coach Tony Levine and his WR fundamentals

BYU Coach Patrick Higgins and his WR fundamentals and talk on the Y cross

49er Coach Mike Johnson and his adjustment for 4 verticals verse cover 2 and general QB play

Tulsa Coach Bill Blankenship and his multiple talks on the no huddle, play action, zone run, and trick plays

San Diego State Brady Hoke and his talk on Defensive Line play

Cal Poly's Brian Cook and his talk on big plays

UCLA's Tim Hundley speaking about cover 4, tackling and turnovers

Utah's Blake Miller and his OL drills for protection

UCLA Mike Linn on off season training programs

Louisvilles Mike Sanford and his discussion on zone run

Gordon Elliott a high school coach out of Washington and his thorough coverage of the 3-3 stack defense

Arizona's Greg Brown on DB play

Chargers Greg Williams and his takes on defense

As a staff I think we all took things that we can come back with and apply and we got some very valuable drill film to show our athletes what it is suppose to look like.  We also would like to thank our booster group for there support to help make this experience possible. With opportunities like this we improve as a staff and thus improve our program for our student athletes here at Clovis High.
