Passing Tournaments & Spring Ball
1st off here is a link to our spring ball gallery.
Spring ball was interesting this year between the weather and balancing our multi sport athletes it was a challenge. In the end of our 9 days we were able to get 5 days together and we definitely made progress towards the 2011 season. The focus of spring ball was to play guys on both sides of the ball and just get better. During the spring there is a lot of new things for everyone and this year was no different. But I appreciated the focus and effort our student athletes put forth to improve as a team. In the end we are able to learn alot as a coaching staff and our excited about our summer phase of our off season.
Over the past two weekends we have also attended passing tournaments. We difinitely attend with a mindset to compete but we approach it as a practice. We have been getting everyone reps and really working on improving as a whole team instead of focusing on having a starting group. It is our philosophy that if the focus is on everyone getting better now we can have our very best team in August through December.
Our first tournament in Selma say us play five games against Selma, Washington Union, Mt Whitney, Cesar Chavez, and Madera. It looked like a first day as we encountered challenges and learned on the run. I was impressed that our guys competed hard all day.
Our last tournament was at Clovis East in believe it or not the June rain. We didnt compete at the level we would like in our first game with Sanger. But I was impressed with how we regrouped and really competed at a HIGH LEVEL the rest of the day with Hanford West, Clovis East, and once again Madera. In the end I feel we are accomplishing what we want from the tournament as we are learning about our players in a competitive environment and our student athletes are improving at executing and defending the passing game.
